Originally from London, I qualified in 1980, and worked for a company who supplied keyboard instruments of all ages and styles to BBC for their historical dramas and music programmes. I’ve tuned in concert halls, recording studios, theatres, hotels, churches and schools. I’ve tuned pianos in garages, on board boats, on the back of trailers, and once on a swinging platform, suspended above the stage. In the late 80's, when bands were still using strung pianos with pick-ups, I tuned for several big music festivals, including Glastonbury for three years running, staying in a caravan backstage. The majority of my work has been in domestic settings, where pianos vary enormously in age and quality. I’ve worked on pianos which are over 100 years old and I’ve tuned cutting edge, state of the art pianos and everything in between. I used to undertake whole action repairs, but now only take on repairs in situe. If more work is needed, I pass it on to a recommended colleague. I have taken several chunks of time out from tuning in order to travel, study for two degrees, and teach piano, guitar and singing. A musician at heart, I enjoy the challenge of bringing out the best of whichever piano I am working on. |
Fees:
|
I currently charge from £65 for a tuning in my area, which is Clevedon, north Somerset. If I have to travel or do a pitch change, the charge increases. If more work is needed, I can give a quote once I've seen the piano. |
